WinTap Lite - Contact and Sales Management
The WinTap product provides a very wide range of functionality - handling Contacts, Diary, Task, full Word processing, Sales, Projects, Forecasting, Timesheets, Expenses, and much more - combined with ease of use "out of the box". Not only does WinTap use Microsoft’s world beating Access database engine, giving it instant connectivity from the entire Microsoft Office Pro suite, but it is fast and uses very little machine resource, even on a Windows 3.11 system. WinTap uses ODBC for data access so that operation over a LAN, with shared databases a plus migration path to any suitable SQL-compliant database, is assured. WinTap is fully supported under Windows 3.11, Windows 95 and Windows NT V3.5 and V4.
The WinTap Lite250 and WinTap Lite1000 versions of the product are complete in every aspect except that they are restricted to use with 250 and 1000 contacts in a single database respectively, but unlimited diary, sales, tasks and other information entries - the Pro version supports unlimited numbers of entries. The Lite versions also exclude the spell-checking dictionaries included with the Professional product (which covers English, French, German and Dutch) and the utilities, such as the ImpEx Import/Export module (which may be separately purchased for £30). Finally, WinTap Lite versions are time limited and will need to be renewed or upgraded after 12 months (the Pro version has no time limit on the licence).
The initial releases of WinTap are aimed at the UK market, but all the screens can be switched into another language (e.g. French, German) at any time, and the built-in word processor’s spelling checker and dictionaries (Pro version only) also reflect the switch. Clients can modify their own on-screen text and even create their own "preferred language", based on the standard version issued.
The many built-in data tables include plenty of "spare" fields for private use, and the main tables (such as the contacts table and the tasks table) incorporate both long text fields and unlimited length memo fields. Also, every main table includes a date/time field which is updated whenever any record is altered, and a unique numeric field to indicate the person and database involved (for future data synchronisation/exchange purposes).
Security and data integrity have been important considerations in the design of WinTap. There are many options available to restrict or control the use of selected facilities, such as the creation of diary entries, or limiting access to "read only" for contacts data. Backing up databases is easy, and users are reminded to backup wherever leaving the system; problems with databases(e.g. data corruption or loss after a server crash) are rare, but utilities are provided to repair a file if WinTap detects a problem.
For the Professional and Corporate users a range of additional services are available, including training, data loading, linkage to the Microsoft or Netscape Internet servers, system tailoring and support, plus Email and optional telephone support. A range of sales and Account management products and services are available, including specific facilities for Account Plan production.
